It is a very common fact that babies have the most sensitive skin. Because of their very young age, baby skin is very sensitive and is prone to rashes, irritation, infections and itchiness. This leaves the baby irritated and uncomfortable once these marks appear in their skin. Once babies are in this state, parents or care takers are affected as well and feel uncomfortable taking care of them. This is why daycares must stock plenty of baby wipes.
The most affected part of irritation on a babys body is their genitals and buttocks because they are always covered with diapers and most of the time moist and wet. Urination and bowel movements take place in the diaper and are waste from the body. Once these wastes are trapped for a long time in the diaper, irritation to the skin occurs leaving the baby with red painful rashes. The irritation experienced by the baby in this part of the body does not only leave babies uncomfortable. This also leads to higher genital problems like urinary track infections (UTI). Most causes of UTI are the non-hygienic use and prolonged stay of unclean or overused diapers on the baby.
It is advised therefore, that certain precautions and cleanliness practice be given in this part of baby care. The following are common advises for daycares in preventing diaper rashes and irritation that may cause UTI:
Change diapers as often as possible. Most experts on baby care advise that diapers should be changed after three to four urinations. For convenience in budget and monitoring however, it is better to buy diapers with a wetness indication. Once the wetness indication tells you to change the diaper, it is best to really change the diaper to avoid rashes. After all, daycares dont want a bunch of upset crying babies.
In relation to frequent changing of diapers, immediately change the diaper no matter how newly changed the diaper was. Also, ensure that the baby is free from bowel residue. You have to make sure that the babys buttock or genital areas are completely clean by using baby wipes such as Nice N Clean or Huggies.
As much as possible, use hypo-allergenic baby Wipes in cleaning the buttock and genitals of the baby. Baby wipes come in unscented to scented types and are usually alcohol free to prevent dryness and pain in case rashes appear. Baby wipes are also practical as they come in containers and can be refilled with available refill packs. Baby wipes can be easily carried everywhere a mother may go. Baby wipes can actually be used not just in changing diapers. Baby wipes can also be used in wiping the babys face and body anywhere if deemed necessary. Baby wipes are also practical in a way that you would not need soap, water and cottons or tissue anymore to wipe the baby. With 4 children, I have found that baby wipes work great in the woods when camping out as well.
Lastly, most experts advise that proper wiping of the babys buttock using baby wipes is from the genital to buttocks or anus, not the other way around. This is especially true when using baby wipes for baby girls since the babys genitals are near the anus or buttocks. Doing otherwise might live a waste residue in the genitals from the buttocks and may cause UTI.
