Ayurvedic Medicine-is It Responsible For Death Of Aids Patients

Ayurvedic Medicine and all other Alternative Medicines are being held Responsible

I have just read an article that blames Alternative Medicine for the death of 300.000 Aids Patients in South Africa. In fact - the author, Dr. Frank, suggests that Alternative Medicine is probably responsible for many other deaths in other countries. Wow! (link to article provided bellow)

I would rather think that Dr. Frank did not really ask himself who is the real guilty party; who should really be held responsible for the death of Aids Patients, be it in South Africa or in any other place where Aids Patients are denied access to retroviral.

Just because Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, the former South African health minister, has decided to hold back retroviral from Aids Patients in favor of some 'herbal remedy,' or voodoo, that is not a solid reason to hold Alternative Medicine responsible.

I cannot speak for all Alternative Medicines out there, but I can speak of Ayurvedic Medicine. Ayurvedic Medicine has been around for over 3,500 years for a reason. And although it has contributed a great deal to humanity, including to Modern medicine, I know of no Ayurvedic Practitioner that would have an Aids Patient take Ayurvedic Remedies in lieu of Retroviral. If anything, any responsible practitioner would, and should, encourage the only known medicine to arrest the multiplication of the Aids Virus. Then, and only then, should an Aids Patient be able to enjoy the extra benefits provided by Ayurvedic Medicine-and they are too many to count here.
Some alternative medicines, like Ayurvedic Medicine, have been around for thousands of years, helping millions of people all over the globe. In India alone you have more than 500 million people relying on Ayurveda as their main health system.
And although no Medicine is ever perfect - including Modern Medicine - each System, and especially Ayurvedic Medicine has plenty to offer.
No wonder Ayurvedic herbal remedies and other Ayurvedic treatments have been embraced as supplementary medicine by Modern Medicine in the Western World. Moreover, Insurance companies in many such countries recognize Ayurveda as an alternative medicine that is able to contribute a world of good in the field of preventive medicine, thus saving untold millions of dollars in the process.

I would suggest to Dr. Frank to rethink his assumption. The guilty party is NOT Alternative Medicine. The Guilty party is the South African Government in general and Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang in particular. It is their ignorance as well as their stubborn refusal to listen to reason, that has brought about this merciless disaster.

Dr. Frank would not blame Modern Medicine, I would like to assume, if Dr. XYZ, who practices Modern Medicine, decides tomorrow that all his/her patients should take Basil, or Garlic, to cure their Aids instead of the Retroviral. Or would he?
